About our Sheffield Venues:

Utilita Arena Sheffield opened in 1991, is a vibrant multi-purpose venue that hosts world-class concerts, sporting events, and family entertainment. With a capacity of up to 13,600, it is one of the UK's premier indoor arenas, having welcomed legendary acts like Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, and Oasis. The “House of Steel” is also home to the Elite League Grand Slam championship-winning ice hockey team, the Sheffield Steelers. Known for its electric atmosphere and iconic performances, the arena offers an exciting, fast-paced environment where no two days are ever the same.

Sheffield City Hall, a stunning Art Deco venue, has been a cultural landmark since its opening in 1932. Boasting three performance spaces, including the magnificent 2,271-seat Oval Hall, this historic venue hosts a diverse range of events—from live music and comedy to conferences and community gatherings. With a rich history of performances by artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, and contemporary stars, Sheffield City Hall is at the heart of the city's vibrant entertainment scene.

Role Overview:

As the Venue Security Manager, you will provide leadership for all aspects of security risk management and emergency preparedness at the venues. You will be confident in assessing and mitigating a wide range of security risks, including threats posed by terrorism and crowd management risks.

We are committed to developing our people, and as part of this role, we will offer a significant investment in training courses with the University of Cumbria (Advanced Diploma Counter Terrorism Risk Management).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tactical leadership for all security-related risks at the venue.
  • Create, review, implement, and update security-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) policies.
  • Management responsibility for the core security-related infrastructure including but not limited to CCTV, access control, intruder detection, radio communication and search and screening equipment
  • Work with the events team to plan events, specifically assessing, documenting, and planning mitigation measures for any identified security risks.
  • Liaise with local stakeholders and regulatory bodies such as the Local Authority, Licensing, Police, and other emergency services.
  • Manage and review the Systematic Assessment of Site Security (SASS) action plan and maintain a good working relationship with the local Counter Terrorism Security Advisor (CTSA).
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Head of Group Security to support and develop group-wide security initiatives and training.
  • Manage the contracted venue event security and stewarding provider, including auditing their compliance and performance with the services contract. Work with them to provide exemplary service standards and drive continuous improvement through regular reviews and management of risk.
  • Oversee the venue's major incident medical provision by working collaboratively with the Event Medical Provider and auditing their compliance with the services contract.
  • Manage the Security team to respond to the needs of the operational departments within the venue.
  • Handle the employment of security staff, including permanent, casual, and contracted staff, where appropriate.
  • Provide operational support in Event Control, including monitoring of CCTV, fire systems, and radio communications systems.
  • Coordinate planned and proactive internal and external security patrols.
  • Assist the Duty Manager during events in case of an emergency, working as the Fire Safety Officer or Security Manager as required.
  • Liaise with visiting production security for any breaches of house policy or procedures.
  • Investigate safety and security-related incidents, including producing reports for any insurance claims.
  • Work in plain clothes if required.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Previous security management experience, in the events industry, hospitality, police, or military - essential
  • Counter-terrorism/security risk assessment qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience in counter-terrorism, including understanding terrorism threats and protective security measures.
  • Experience of managing contracts for specialist service providers
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Current SIA Frontline Door Supervisors License
  • Current SIA CCTV License.
  • First Aid at Work Qualification
  • Ability to take control of an emergency incident, such as an evacuation, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Confidence in dealing with difficult situations, including those involving conflict.
  • Excellent customer service & communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • FREC 3 or FPOS First Aid qualification.
  • Crowd management experience.
  • Safety Officer or Fire Officer training.
  • SCaN and Act Awareness training for Operational Managers.
  • Membership of the Security Institute or a similar professional body.
  • Current Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH

Additional Requirements:

ASM Global requires all security staff to be vetted under BS7858, which includes:

  • 5 years of employment verification.
  • 6-year credit search.
  • Proof of ID & UK right to work.
  • A valid SIA license or basic disclosure/ACPO check.
  • Coverage of any 31+ day employment gap.

Due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
